Electronic floating control

VCM (Voice Coil Motor) in combination with a Nano USM achieves electronic floating focus control. The high-thrust VCM actuates the heavy focusing lens group, while a compact, energy-saving Nano USM actuates the lightweight floating lens to deliver fast, reliable and quiet autofocus.

Focus breathing control

The RF 85mm f/1.4L VCM offers stable video compositions with extremely little focus breathing. The combination of VCM and Nano USM actuators, thoroughly suppresses breathing in all focus positions optically, meaning that this lens can be used for shooting videos with extremely stable composition, even together with a camera body that doesn't have any electronic breathing correction function.
