The Zvezda 1/100 scale SU-122 model represents one of the Soviet Union's earliest mass-produced self-propelled artillery vehicles of World War II. The SU-122 was not a tank, but a self-propelled howitzer built on the robust chassis of the T-34 medium tank, showcasing a blend of mobility and firepower tailored to infantry support roles.

Introduced in early 1943, the SU-122 was equipped with the powerful 122mm M-30S howitzer. This large-caliber gun was mounted in a fixed casemate instead of a rotating turret, making the SU-122 more specialized for its role in assault operations and bunker-busting duties. Unlike traditional tanks, it was not designed for tank-on-tank engagements.

Production of the SU-122 ran until mid-1944, with a total of 1,150 units built. Although effective, it was eventually phased out in favor of the more versatile and powerful SU-85, which had better anti-tank capabilities.
